Hometown Hostage

from Maybe Next Year by Boltergeist

/

about

"I once read a study that the average American lives within 18 miles from where they were born. I may not live in America, but I do live within 18kms of where I was born. It got me thinking, what turns a person into a hometown hostage." - Joel Dux

lyrics

Oh, hey, yeah man, what's new?
It's been so long since I've seen you.
How've you been? Where you workin', you got a wife and kids?

Who me? Nah, I'm the same.
Got no kids, my job is lame.
I've never left this city, in fact I just bought my parents house.

I guess life moved too fast.
and I just lost track.
It's funny the excuses we always tell ourselves.

Maybe next year.
I'll have to look that up!
Once I save a bit more, I can get out of this rut.
When I retire....
once the weather warms up.
After I get my promotion and out this dead end job

You know that we have limited time.
To take that leap.
You know that we have limited time.
So take the leap.

As I look back, on decisions in my life.
I know that, I may have wasted time.
I sought security and did what I was taught to do.
Made "good decisions" to invest and accrue.

I guess life moved too fast.
and I just lost track.
It's funny the excuses that I always told myself.
